Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller [ˈjoːhan ˈkʁɪstɔf ˈfʁiːdʁɪç fɔn ˈʃɪlɐ] (10 November 1759 – 9 May 1805) was a German poet, philosopher, historian, and playwright. During the last seventeen years of his life (1788–1805), Schiller struck up a productive, if complicated, friendship with already famous and influential Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. They frequently discussed issues concerning aesthetics, and Schiller encouraged Goethe to finish works he left as sketches. This relationship and these discussions led to a period now referred to as Weimar Classicism. They also worked together on Xenien, a collection of short satirical poems in which both Schiller and Goethe challenge opponents to their philosophical vision. From Wikipedia under the

From Google Video Search: "friedrich schiller" What does the poem "The Dance" by Friedrich von Schiller mean? Q. I really don't understand it at all. please help. Asked by leah5678 - Thu May 13 17:50:05 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I think it is about the harmony of creation. He describes a couple dancing, but uses this as an allegory of a possible harmony in the world, and the difficulty to grasp it, because dancers are forever in motion, and never still. That is why, at the end of the poem, he asks question to "you", probably the reader, and wonders whether it is possible to understand the harmony of art in general, of his poem, maybe. It is a vision of art as a moving form, not as a close one. You could probably say something about the form of the poem too, that is supposed to convey the sense of harmony, except that it is a translation, so there are probably elements from the original poem that were lost.
